Got a new pic up of myself from 2005 so you know I don't look like that anymore ;)
Another GenCon has come and gone and without me attending once again, my last visit to the Gaming Mecca that is GenCon was in 2005. 2005 was a pretty solid year for me, I was dating the girl that would become my wife, I was playing Magic The Gathering like a madman hoping to get a chance to go to a Pro Tour, I still had my once a week 3.5 game with the rotating GM.
Now that GenCon is over, here in Vegas we look to Strategicon in LA from Sept 2-5, Pacificon in Santa Clara October 14, 15, & 16 and Neoncon Nov 3-6. Unfortunately of these three I will only be able to attend my home Convention, Neoncon, Having been to my fair share of conventions from the small ones in North Dakota which are glorified Game Days, to the mother of all GenCon, I have to be honest and say that Neoncon is on of my absolute favorites.
At last year's Neoncon, I over did it and missed the Shadow Lodge event because I needed sleep! Sleep at Con is almost a crime and to miss on of the more anticipated events of the Con is a crime. I ran 5 slots and played in 1 over the 4 days of the con, I also missed the Iron GM competition which I also wanted to attend but that was an EPIC fail, I had scheduled myself to run a PFS game at the same time! Granted I still very much enjoyed myself and loved the convention, but I tried to do to much. This year I only plan on running 2 games, the first will be Thursday Night's Alumni Night and then one on Sunday afternoon, this way I can participate in panels, Iron GM, and try various other non PFS games. I might even try out an LFR, just to reconfirm that its still not for me and to play with last year's GM of the Con winner Perry Snow.
Next Year Con Goals-
OrcCon - LA
GameX - LA
Strategicon - LA
GenCon - Indy
Neoncon - Las Vegas
Last Game-Related Book Read-
Shadowrun 4e
I hesitated at first when I saw the dreaded 4th edition tag on the cover, but after reading it turned out to be an improve upon the tried and true Shadowrun, I don't think past player's would have any trouble adapting to the updated version. Now if other games could improve rather then stick to dated systems (pointing at you Palladium) or completely throwing out a winning format and replacing it with a completely different system, therefore destroying the feel of the game.
The feel of Shadowrun is still there and the look has improved, I went and picked up the splat book book Attitude just to continue the background and enjoy the artwork. From a fiction stand point I will be purchasing the new fiction books if they are anything like the writing going into the corebook and splat books.
IN closing, I sadly didn't win one of the 2012 ENnie Judge spots. But I will try again next year!
Love the Palladium jab!
ReplyDeleteI am planning on Neoncon as well! Will split my time between NeoExodus and PFS.
Are you running a demo? If so count me in!
